I'm not selling templates
I'm not selling templates or AI skills on my site. The part of my knowledge that could be handed to a machine is already inside a product. That is what I put in front of the reader, not another shelf.
The situation
The next step for my site was going to be a toolkit: decision templates and AI skills, priced between 39 and 149 euros. Things I make once that stay available without me.
The first doubt came with the template. I looked at the empty version of my decision brief and asked myself: would I pay 49 euros for this? No. An empty template promises work, not a result, and anyone can find one for free.
I liked the skill better. An audit skill does the work for you: you run it on your own website and get a report. I had it down as the entry product, at 29 euros. If people take it, they take it.
Then I put the skill next to my own product, theuxbites. theuxbites runs the same two audits I was about to sell as skills: usability, and how well AI search can read the site. Except it works from real measurement, puts the fixes in order, and three audits a month are free. The 29 euro skill would have been a weaker, manual version of my own free plan.
What I didn't choose
Two roads were left on the table.
One was the shelf of skills. It was tempting, because it is quick to make and I would learn fast whether anyone pays. But I would have been competing with my own product, and I build alone: every skill sold is one more thing to fix each time the model under it changes.
The other was to lock the skill behind a server so it could not be passed around. I thought through what that takes: a server, keys, usage metering. I would have been building the same product a second time. It already exists. It is called theuxbites.
So theuxbites now appears in more places on my site, where a reader is already thinking about their own website.
